FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Find out if Electrolysis is the right treatment for you.
What is electrolysis
Electrolysis treats every hair follicle individually. The electrologist inserts a very fine, disposable, sterile probe into the natural opening of the hair follicle alongside the hair shaft. A minute amount of current is then applied which allows the hair to be easily removed while permanently destroying the follicle’s ability to reproduce.
Is Electrolysis suitable for me?
Electrolysis is suitable for everyone regardless of gender, race, age or skin colour.
Is it painful?
Although most people feel no discomfort there are some people who do. The only way you will truly know is to experience it. This is why we offer a free patch test during your initial (FREE) consultation so you can try electrolysis for yourself and see if it is suitable for you.
Why should I choose electrolysis over other hair removal methods?
Unlike other hair removal options electrolysis is the only medically proven method for permanent hair removal. Not only does it eliminate hair permanently it is also suitable for all skin types. Laser treatment is not suitable for everyone and even in best-case scenarios only offers a temporary reduction in hair removal. It also carries certain risks (see laser vs electrolysis). Waxing, threading and tweezing only offer a temporary solution and can cause ingrown hairs and an increase in hair growth. Depilatories and shaving are also only temporary. Both can cause skin irritation and again can cause the hair to grow faster. All of these methods require a constant stream of maintenance and inconvenience which can be impractical especially if you suffer from excessive hair growth.
How long will it take to be hair free?
Each session lasts between 15 mins to 1 hour. The number of treatments you will need depends on the size of the area to be treated and the length of each session. Although you can expect to see results after the first visit it is an ongoing process and will require a commitment of at least several months. Do not be discouraged, it is a life-changing procedure. Just think about the time you have already spent trying to get rid of unwanted hair, the discomfort, and insecurity, and think how great it will feel to be hair-free.
What happens after treatment?
After treatment, the treated follicles may become slightly red. This usually goes after 24 – 48 hours and can be helped by applying Aloe vera or witch hazel to calm the treated area. It is also recommended that you try to stay out of direct sunlight for 24 hours. ( A full aftercare sheet is provided upon treatment).

What should I do before and after my treatments?
Pre-Treatment Care
There are a number of things that you can do prior to your appointment that will help achieve optimal results and keep you comfortable:
1/ Stop using other hair removal methods like waxing, threading and tweezing. Electrolysis will work a lot faster with more hairs present on your skin during treatment.
2/ A few days before treatment lightly exfoliate the skin to clear the hair follicles of debris.
3/ Drink lots of water the day before and the day of the electrolysis session. The more hydrated and more supple your skin is, the better the treatment will work.
4/ Any skin treatments including facials, microdermabrasion, skin rejuvenation treatments, or peels should not be performed within one week of the electrolysis session.
5/ Do not wear make-up, foundation or sunblock to the electrolysis session.
After Treatment Care
Following treatment, redness, mild swelling, and a warm sensation are all very common side effects. Here are some aftercare recommendations to help keep you feeling comfortable:
1/ Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated
2/ Avoid direct sunlight for 24 hours.
3/ Avoid contact with oily, soapy, perfumed or alcohol-based products until skin is back to normal.
4/ Avoid using make-up products on the treated area for 12-24 hours after the treatment.
5/ Do not use other hair removal methods in between sessions, instead come right away for treatment.
6/ Do not exercise vigorously for 48hrs following electrolysis treatment. Sweat can irritate treated skin
7/ Lightly apply Polysporin, tea tree oil, aloe vera or ice to soothe treated areas if necessary.
